Emotional Intelligence

As a church one of our main ministry philosophies and goals is to be mature people

As a church one of our main ministry philosophies and goals is to be mature people. In several discussions in our elder meetings and staff meetings we have talked about and prayed for maturity in our church. We’ve come to believe a core element of maturity that we witness in the life of Jesus and what God’s Word calls us to is what is popularly called today, “emotional intelligence.” Emotional intelligence refers to the ability of a person to exercise the fruit of self-control in the way they are able to identify and manage their own emotions, as well as read and care for the emotions of others.

Peter Scazzero is a Christian man, former pastor and author of “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality.” I highly recommend this book. Additionally, here is a great fifteen minute video of him explaining emotional intelligence.

May our God continue to grow us as a people in order that "we may present everyone mature in Christ (Colossians 1:28)."
